My Novel has a Literary Agent!

I’m excited to share that my novel, tentatively titled The Bamboo Brothers, now has a literary agent. Anyone who has pitched a novel knows how difficult it can be to get a literary agent, as competition is fierce, agents have limited time, and opinions are highly subjective.

The next step is preparing the manuscript to pitch to publishing houses, another daunting process. Wish me luck!

Here’s what my novel is about:

Two brothers witness their bucolic lives in rural China upended when bandits destroy their village. Forced to flee, they enlist as railroad workers and follow an exodus of Chinese laborers to California. Thoughts of returning home accompany them as they endure the foreign and often brutal conditions of the American frontier. Little do they know that the troubles of their homeland have also emigrated to find them in the new world, threatening their bond and making them question what it means to find “home.”

This story of adventure and survival shines a light on the rarely explored topic of Chinese railroad workers in 1860s America, their family bonds and the immigrant experience. Readers interested in American history told from an underrepresented perspective might enjoy this story, particularly fans of Colson Whitehead and Hernan Diaz.
